Event Facilities & Logistics FAQ

Where are the toilets located?

Public toilets are located in Buttermere Village in the main Lake District National Park car park to the right of the Fish Hotel. There are no toilet facilities at the lakeshore. Please only use the hotel and pub toilets if are using their facilities.

Are there any changing facilities?

There are no specific changing facilities or showers at this venue; you will be given the full wild swimming experience! There will be a sheltered area to leave any kit at the lakeshore field but this will not be secure.

A swim changing robe is an excellent idea for swim event changing, or arrive ready to swim wearing warm clothing over your wetsuit if necessary.

Will there be any entries on the day?

No entries on the day, sorry. In order to meet our strict safety management standards regarding number management there will be no entries on the day. Online entries will close on thur 6 june 2013, or earlier if the event is full.

A small number of entries may be available on the Friday evening pre-event registration but these are not guaranteed.

Where can I park?

We recommend you allow plenty of time to arrive, park and get to the start.

This year we are encouraging all competitors to car share; it’s a great way to share costs and event camaraderie. Please don’t arrive with only one person in your car.

You can arrange car sharing on the Utterly Buttermere Facebook event page or via or www.eventcarshare.com

Free event car parking is provided in a farmers field. Parking is at your own risk and will depend on ground conditions. If the field is too wet please use alternative suggestions.

Until then there are there are 2 good car parks in Buttermere Village, Buttermere LDNP car park is in the centre of the village beside the Fish Hotel. A small stream runs alongside the car park. Pay by phone reference is 7265. However please be aware there is poor mobile signal in this area.

The National Trust car park is on the northern entrance to the village on the road to Cockermouth.

There is lay-by parking on the Newlands Valley road. Please do park sensibly, do not park on any sensitive verges or in pubs/ cafes without the owners permission.

Can I get a refund?

No, sorry. Registrations are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Staging an event incurs significant costs whether it goes ahead or not, including event insurance, National Trust license, safety equipment and personnel, etc. Therefore we will be unable to make any refunds.

Can spectators come along and watch?

Yes, and we encourage it. There are public footpaths around the whole lake making it an excellent venue for family and friends to keep an eye on you and follow your progress.

I know someone that wants to volunteer, can they?

Yes! We welcome volunteers, and need a team of about 40 to help manage the day. Please ask them to email us on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
